Enrichment and execise activities for Austin Gusto dogs

Austin dog swimming

A Gusto Dogs pack leader will work with you to determine what enrichment activities best suit your pooch. Enrichment activities happen after or during a structured dog walk and challenge your dog in new and interesting ways.

Here are some popular examples of our enrichment options we have for Austin dogs:

Seek and Find or Retrieving

These activities are great for sporting breeds, hounds or mixed breeds who love to use their nose or retrieve objects.

All dogs are asked to engage with us using basic commands before they’re released each time to do their job. This assures they are working with us and not developing obsessive behaviors over the objects.

Frisbee or Basic Agility

These activities are great for herding or terrier groups. Keep in mind we are not agility or Frisbee experts, but we can certainly challenge your dog with basic exercises after their long, vigorous walks.

This is a mentally enriching activity that some breeds thrive on. It’s an activity that any breed and any aged dog can do with practice, though, so why not give it a try!

Basic Obedience

Work on retrieving and obedienceA good one for every dog. We can work on commands your dog already knows as well as introduce new commands and important skills like loose-leash walking. We’ll need you to be on board with this one as well – it takes a village to raise a well-mannered pooch!

Pooch Paddles

Our downtown Austin friends can sign their dog up for a pooch paddle on Lady Bird Lake. Getting your dog on a kayak or canoe can challenge his mind in new ways, improve balance and confidence and allow him to experience something out of his comfort zone. He may even get to sneak in a refreshing swim!

We can add a swim in at the end of your dog’s walk or we can replace his walk with extra swimming time on hot days. See Swimmer’s Delight for more information.

Backpack Work

Backpacks are a great way to give your dog an important job to do. It helps increase their focus and sense of importance, giving them a more fulfilling experience during their walk. Gusto Dogs will work with your veterinarian to find the right size, fit and weight for your dog.
